BORN 2 RUN!
[Smackdown opens with Curt Hawkins and Finlay facing off in a First Round Match in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. After a hard fought battle with both parties, Finlay nailed Hawkins with his patented Celtic Cross to score the pinfall victory to advance to the Quarter Finals next week.]
[Matt Striker interviews Smackdown Money In The Bank holder, Dolph Ziggler, backstage. Matt asks Ziggler about his immediate intentions regarding the World Heavyweight Championship. Ziggler claims that he will win the current Tournament to face Ryback at Extreme Rules for the World Heavyweight Championship – where he will win. Matt then enquires as to what will happen with his Money In The Bank briefcase when that happens, with Ziggler merely telling Matt to wait and see.]
[Xavier Woods announces that next week Undertaker will return to Smackdown! Xavier claims that Undertaker will compete in next week’s Main Event where he will team up with Ryback to take on the World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry and Cody Rhodes.]
[In the second match of the evening, Big Show takes on Justin Gabriel in the next First Round Match of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. This match is completely one sided with Big Show completely decimating Justin Gabriel before picking up the pinfall victory to advance to the Quarter Finals next week on Smackdown.]
[In the locker room area, Ryback sits with his World Heavyweight Championship on his lap while Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez stand in the corner, talking quietly while giving Ryback furtive glances. After a few awkward moments of Ryback sitting in silence, he climbs to his feet and turns to Del Rio and Ricardo, saying just two words – Ryback Rules. Ryback then leaves the locker room, leaving his partner for tonight slightly confused.]
[In the third match of the night, Ted DiBiase competes in his first Singles Match in month against former United States Champion Antonio Cesaro. The two men put on a wrestling clinic with one of the best matches to be seen on Smackdown this year. In the end, DiBiase escaped the clutches of Antonio before hitting Dream Street for the three count.]
[Team Rhodes Scholars stand backstage, talking about their match tonight against Ryback and Alberto Del Rio. Cody says that last week Del Rio got lucky when he beat him but tonight he will exact his revenge when he takes him out with the Beautiful Disaster Kick. Damien then follows up by claiming that the punishment he carries out on Ryback tonight will be a preview of things to come when the two face off for the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules.]
[Matt Striker attempts to interview Mark Henry – asking him about the message he sent out to the locker room last week. Henry refuses to answer the question but becomes irate when Matt Striker makes reference to him not being involved in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. Henry tells Striker that Booker T made the mistake of a lifetime not putting him in the Tournament and he will pay for his mistakes.]
[The next First Round Match of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament tonight sees The Great Khali take on Money In The Bank holder Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler was accompanied to the ring by Divas Champion AJ, who played a vital role in this match. Khali had Ziggler set up for the Vice Grip but AJ distracted the referee to allow Ziggler to low blow Khali, followed up by a roll up for the three count.]
[Randy Orton stands backstage, saying that he wanted to speak tonight to send out a message to a very special someone watching at home – The Rock. Orton tells Rock that he will soon be World Heavyweight Champion and, when that time comes, the offer for Rock to come out to Smackdown is still open – should he be man enough to show up.]
[Christian is backstage, talking to a member of the crew when Big Show walks over with a massive grin on his face. Big Show tells Christian that he was just informed that the two of them will face off next week in the Quarter Finals of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. Show warns Christian that he better be careful otherwise he will be back at home nursing an injury sooner than he would have hoped.]
[Randy Orton and William Regal squared off in their First Round of the World Heavyweight Championship in the penultimate match of the evening. William Regal once again reminded the fans why he is considered one of the greatest wrestlers to step foot in the ring but his best was not enough on this occasion as Randy Orton secured his victory following an RKO.]
[Booker T and Xavier Woods are in the General Manager’s office, discussing how they think Undertaker will do in his first match next week since his battle with The Rock at Wrestlemania.]
[In the Main Event of the evening, Team Rhodes Scholars took on both Alberto Del Rio and the World Heavyweight Champion Ryback. Team Rhodes Scholars had an early advantage on account of them being a solid, formidable tag team. However, Ryback was soon able to show his dominance as he took out both men with a double clothesline – a moment which proved to be the turning point of the bout. Later in the match, Del Rio would take out Rhodes with a massive super kick while Ryback nailed Sandow with the Shell Shocked for the victory.] | |
